Happy days!
23/05/2009 by Ted.
Greetings families,
Lovely to hear from Andrew and Richard. Grace and I did that Egypt trip some years ago Richard. What an experience, eh? Unforgettable! And Andrew - have you been shopping in Works too? Your joke has a certain ring to it! Mmmmm….. !
Now then - you may remember my post on 10 January 2009 - seems ages longer than that- when I mentioned that United Utilities were filling in my favourite trout fishing hole, and that I had been compelled to transfer my affection to Hodbarrow Lagoon. Since than I have visited the Lagoon only twice to fish - well it was winter and very cold - and have managed to catch NOTHING! But, as was the case with Baystone Bank - now being filled in - the catching of fish can assume secondary importance when one is faced with the beauty in these places.
My last visit to the lagoon was on a very windy morning which made fly-fishing impossible from my usual place. So I got on my bike and pedalled around the lagoon to find a more sheltered place. I did, and how beautiful it was - absolutely wild and almost unvisited, the ground covered with flowering wild strawberries and the sea-wall area an amazing display of brilliant yellow from the gorse bushes and broom - and no wind! The sun was shining and I spent a glorious hour or so just sitting by the water enjoying the colours and the fragrance of the gorse flowers. It felt like being in heaven. And I remembered many years ago walking along the top of the sea-wall with little mum on one of our adventurous outings.
Anyway, it was so nice that I determined to go back home, eat my slow-cooking meal, and then come back out to fish the afternoon away - which I did. No fish - but a really lovely day.
Finally, now, a question. Why is it that the word “big” is smaller than the word “little”, while the words “small” and “large” are the same size?
Much love to you all,
Ted.

Sunset on the Nile
22/05/2009 by Richard.
Just a quickie to let you know all is well down here in Worcester. Thanks on behalf of Linda for the birthday wishes, I hate to think how many 21st birthdays she has had to date.
We celebrated this one in Luxor Egypt. Spent a week on a cruise along the Nile seeing the sights i.e The Valley of the Kings, and Queens lots of temples with fantastic history and the Aswan dam. Just amazing. The second week we did nothing but laze around in our five star surroundings in temperatures of 40degrees +. getting nicely sun tanned.
Back to work on Sunday night if I can make it. It’s going to be strange as I have been off for three weeks and I am sure it will take some getting used to.
I’ll just finish off with a little story as that seems to be the trend these days.
Gordon Brown was visiting a primary school and as par for the course he went into one of the classes. They were in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked Mr Brown if he would like to lead the discussion on the word tragedy.
Thus the illustrious leader asked the class for an example of tragedy.
A little boy stood up and offered, “If my best friend who lives on a farm is playing in a field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy”.
“No” said Gordon, “that would be an accident”.
A little girl raised her hand, “If a school bus carrying fifty children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a tragedy”.
“I’m afraid not”,explained Gordon,”That’s what we call a great loss”.
The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Gordon searched the room.” Isn’t there any one here who can give me an example of tragedy”?
Finally, at the back of the room, little Jeremy raised his hand. In a quiet voice he said “If a plane carrying you and Mr Darling to Iraq was struck by a friendly fire missile and blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy”.
“Fantastic” exclaimed Gordon,”Thats right, and can you tell me why it would be a tragedy”?
“Well”, says Jeremy,”It has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn’t be a great loss, and it probably wouldn’t be an accident”.
love to all

And how about this one?
16/05/2009 by Pat.
You now know why the word ‘politics’ is used to describe the process of Government. ‘Poli’ in Latin means ‘many’ and ‘tics’ are ‘blood sucking creatures’.
or this
Man to politician: “There’s only one honest way to make money”.
Politician: “And what way is that?”
Man to politician: “I had a feeling you wouldn’t know!”

And another ……
16/05/2009 by Pat.
Tony Blair is skating on a frozen pond when the ice cracks and he falls in. Luckily three boys are on hand to pull him out.
“You’ve saved my life”, says Tony. “How can I repay you?”
“I’d like a toy car”, says one boy.
“I’d like a toy plane”, says another.
“I’d like a motorised wheelchair”, says the third boy.
“Why do you want a wheel chair?”, says Tony. “You look very healthy to me”.
“I am”, says the boy. “but I’m going to need one when my dad hears I helped save Tony Blair”.
Be good,
God bless,
Pat.

Politics again!
16/05/2009 by Ted.
Thought: If voting really could change anything it would be illegal!
Also, no matter who you vote for the government always seems to get in!

Hello everyone
16/05/2009 by Andrew.
OK, I have sat looking at this rectangular grey box for 10 minutes trying to think of something to write as i have done many times before, usually i just give up. Maybe this is the problem for other people and thats why not many posts get written. The spirit is willing but the mind is blank. Anyway i had a bit of a brainwave and decided to choose some catagories and comment on each, so here goes.
Family - everyone is OK. Janette is coping better and we are still hoping for a complete recovery.
Polytics - not a nice time to be a polytician! Rumour has it that they are contemplating re-erecting the gallows at Tyburn. What is all the fuss about? A simple lapse of memory that you had paid off your mortgage, so easily done! UKIP is now level with the Labs and Libs in the polls and that is who is getting my vote this time. (assuming we a have a candidate)
Weather - The weather prophets have predicted a hot summer, YIPPIE! During June, July and August it will be difficult to convince yourself that you are not on the Med - wow! So get your cossy’s and high factor lotion now as no doubt there will be shortages in the shops come June 1st.
A Joke - I walked into this pub for a bit of lubrication and there were three men and a dog sitting at a table playing cards………what! you’ve already heard that one? OK here is another:
A polar bear walks in to a bar and says to the barman. “I’ll have a Gin and…………………………………………………………..tonic.” “Why the big pause?” asks the barman. the Polar bear looks down and says “What do you mean, I’ve always had them.”
Anyway thats all for now.
Lots of love and XXX to everyone
Andrew & family
