Hey up.I’m back!

And with breaking news too.

Fly-on-the-wall told me on my return that he has been given a peerage - something to do with services to politics - and is now entitled to sit on the walls of the Chamber of the House of Lords.  I think that was just his posh way of saying “toilets” because I own a chamber pot and such a thing would not be found in the House of Lords proper. He now insists on being known as Lord Fly of Bogland. What a cheek!

Right, it is now only 36 days until the shortest day and a mere forty to the big one.

My recent trip to New York was great - so many tall buildings there.  Reminded me of the time I lived in Manchester when the only way you could see the sky was by squinting up between the rows of the densely terraced houses of Hightown.  A bit too large for me though and was glad to continue my journey to New Zealand before visiting Bangladesh and then Bangkok on my way back to the UK.  I flew my own plane and taught myself to fly as I went along. Had a couple of near misses along the journey but managed to get back all in one piece.  I just love this Google earth and it’s built-in flight simulator!

I trust everyone is OK.  They say that NO NEWS (which is certainly what we have) is GOOD NEWS. I have confided before that each morning I get up and the first thing I do is look in the bathroom mirror to see if I am still there.  Sometimes I wish I could do something similar with the blog and have a peek and see if there is still a family out there.  I know, I know - everyone is busy with their own lives and families and jobs and shopping and so on.  But sometimes  Lord Fly and I feel that we are blogging to ourselves. But then we are both a bit soft like that.  We listen to the news headlines and then turn off the radio - and feel sorry for the newsreader who we feel will now be talking to themselves - especially if everyone else does the same.

Cumbria is as beautiful as ever.  There have been some fantastic autumn colours this year.  The leaves have been able to stay on the trees longer because the winds which bring the leaves down have been later.  This has given them time to display the gradual change of colours in all it’s beauty.  Now however the branches are mostly bare. Little mum loved the winter countryside and used to say that it had a beauty of its own - and that is true. The plentiful rain has also been a bit warmer than some years but not as warm as others.  That’s the way it goes!

Love to anyone out there,
